How Desktop & Web Work Together
Rephlo is a desktop app with an optional web companion. The desktop app is where you do your work — running commands, chatting, and using on-device models. The web companion lets you sync your commands across devices and manage your account. They share a single sign-in.
Privacy first: your history and chat conversations never leave your desktop, and your Spaces stay on your device too. The only thing that syncs to the web is a command — and you upload one only when you choose to publish or share it. Your history, chats, and Spaces are never uploaded to Rephlo's cloud.
Privacy first — your data stays on your device
This is a core part of how Rephlo is built:
- History & audit — every command run is recorded only on your device.
- Chat conversations — stored locally; they are never synced to the cloud.
- Spaces (your documents) — stay on your machine; nothing is uploaded.
- Commands — the only thing you can sync to the web, and only when you publish or share one.
The desktop app works fully on its own. The web companion is opt-in convenience for syncing commands and managing your account — it never reaches into your local history, chats, or documents.
A note on cloud AI: keeping your data on-device is about storage — Rephlo never uploads your history, chats, or Space library to its cloud. When you run a cloud model, only the text and context for that request is sent to the AI provider you chose (with BYOK it goes straight to the vendor, bypassing Rephlo's servers). On-device models send nothing at all — the request never leaves your machine.
One account, one sign-in
You sign in once. From the desktop app, choosing Sign in opens your browser to authenticate, then returns you to the app automatically. The same account works on the web platform.
Your commands sync across devices
You control what leaves your device: publishing or sharing a command to the gallery is always your explicit choice, and you install commands from the Command Gallery when you decide to. Once a command is in your library, the desktop keeps it in sync automatically, so edits and updates appear on all your signed-in devices. Your history, chats, and Space documents are never part of this and stay only on the device where you created them.
Where billing and credits live
Subscriptions, credits, and payment are managed on the web in Billing & Plans. The desktop app shows your plan and credit balance read-only, and uses your credits when you run Rephlo-hosted AI. Some capabilities are desktop-only — most notably on-device models, which run locally and don't consume credits.
