Image Generation

Turn a prompt into an image without leaving your chat — then keep refining across turns, or ask for a full illustrated article. Available on every plan, metered by credits.

Starting an image

In any chat, open the + menu next to the input box and choose Create image. A fly-out lists every image-capable model Rephlo hosts (currently GPT Image 2 and Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), each with a per-image cost badge such as "~8/img" — a base estimate for a standard 1024×1024 image. Larger sizes or higher quality cost more.

Only Rephlo's own hosted image models are offered here — this flow doesn't connect to a personal bring-your-own-key image provider (see BYOK and image models below).

Pick a model and a Create image: {model name} chip appears in the input area. Click the × on the chip any time to return to plain text chat.

Size and quality

With a model selected, the fly-out also shows Size and, for models that support it, Quality.

Sizes range from 1024×1024 up to 4096×4096 (square, portrait, and landscape variants); your plan sets the ceiling:

PlanMax size
Free1024×1024
Starter2048×2048
Pro and above (Pro, Pro Plus, Elite, Team, Team BYOK, Perpetual, Enterprise)4096×4096

High quality is available on Pro and above; Free and Starter generate at standard quality. Not every model offers a quality setting. Both size and quality feed into the credit estimate on the cost badge.

Image only vs. Mixed

Once a model is selected, choose a mode:

  • Image only (default) — generate a single image from your prompt.
  • Mixed — ask for an illustrated article: Rephlo writes the text, plans illustrations at the relevant points, and generates each one.

Mixed mode: review before you generate

Mixed mode shows a review step before any credits are spent — "Plan ready — review before generating images." You'll see the finished article alongside every planned illustration, a checkbox for each (the first is checked by default), a credit estimate per image, and a running total. Uncheck anything you don't want, adjust size or quality per illustration if needed, then choose Generate N image(s) — or Article only to skip images, or Cancel. You're only charged for what you generate.

While an image is generating, its spot in the article shows a "Generating image…" placeholder sized to match, then swaps in the finished image once ready. If one illustration fails, only that slot is affected — the rest of the article and its other images are unaffected, and you can retry the failed one.

Cost & credits

Images draw from the same monthly credit balance as chat and everything else — there's no separate image allowance. The cost badge and the Mixed-mode review dialog both show credit estimates before you generate, so you know the cost up front. If you don't have enough credits, Rephlo tells you before starting rather than generating a partial result. See Credits & Usage for how credits work generally.

BYOK and image models

If your organization has configured its own API key for one of Rephlo's hosted image models (for example, its own OpenAI key for GPT Image), your organization's image requests can bill to that key instead of platform credits — ask your organization admin whether this is set up for your account. Bringing your own key for an image model that Rephlo doesn't otherwise host isn't supported yet.

Content moderation

Image prompts are checked against Rephlo's content policy. If a prompt is blocked, or the moderation service is temporarily unavailable, Rephlo tells you why instead of generating an image. See Content Policy for what's not allowed, and Troubleshooting: Image Generation Issues for details on these errors.
